Want to learn how easy it is to grow fresh,
tasty and healthy vegetables in your own yard?
VGSD Organic Vegetable Gardening Classes are offered throughout the year as a series of three or four class sessions, typically on Saturday mornings (other days of the week too, according to class needs), given at different locations throughout the San Diego Urban Region.
Class topics include:
- Natural ways to eliminate your existing lawn
- Soil Amendment
- Bed Preparation and Soil Awareness
- Plant Selection
- Planting, Maintaining and Harvesting your Garden
- Irrigation
- Composting
- How to Prepare and Eat your Harvest!
Classes are offered in one of two tracks (click on the title to find out more):
VGSD Organic Vegetable Gardening Classes (fee based)
These classes take place at private homes, schools, workplaces, and organization sites throughout the region. The classes are fee based and can accommodate up to 15 class members.
Regional Gardening Education Center Classes (free through February 2012)
RGECs offer three different class tracks, all which take place at the five Regional Garden Education Centers in San Diego County.
Gardening 101: Basic Home Gardening
Gardening 201: How to Start and Manage Community Gardens
Gardening 301: How to Start and Sustain a School Garden Program
Through February 2012, these classes are free.
